Chinese stocks opened lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.3 percent to 2,236.29.

BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks opened lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.3 percent to 2,236.29.

The Shenzhen Component Index opened at 8,981.74, down 0.4 percent from the previous close.
