SMM Weekly Review on Brass Imports (Dec. 24-28)

As brass prices marched slightly higher last week, and since importers bet on higher prices before the year’s end, market interest in purchasing imported brass has recently increased.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 31 (SMM) –Turning to the brass market, CIF quotations for US brass, Western were slightly up to USD 5,080-5,130/mt last week. CIF quotations for Bulgarian brass edged higher to around USD 4,780/mt, and roughly USD 4,650/mt for German and Spanish brass. Mainstream offers for US brass, Western also surged to RMB 38,300-38,700/mt on China’s domestic markets. Brass prices marched slightly higher owing to uncertainty in import approvals for 2013, and since importers bet on higher prices before the year’s end. Against this backdrop, market interest in purchasing imported brass has recently increased.
