SHANGHAI, Oct. 17 (SMM) – According to China Customs, prebaked anode exports in Guangxi, Shandong and Henan were 103,577 mt in August, up 24% YoY. Export unit price was RMB 627/mt, down 8% YoY.
Prebaked anode exports in August maintained an upward trend on a yearly basis in Guangxi, Shandong and Henan, major exporting provinces of prebaked anode. Export prices of domestic prebaked anode fell, though. This is largely because prices of low-sulfur petroleum coke, raw material of prebaked anode, dropped to RMB 1,500/mt from RMB 2,480/mt in the same period last year, down RMB 40%, which directly drove down costs of prebaked anode.
Rising exports are partially due to falling domestic prebaked anode prices. Some exporters informed SMM that they stepped up exports to cover losses from weak domestic prices. SMM’s statistics show that average prices for domestic prebaked anode have fell to RMB 3,350/mt from RMB 4,000/mt in the same period last year, down 16% YoY.
