Austria's Inflation Accelerates in September

Inflation in Austria rose to 2.7 percent in September from 2.2 percent in August, which was mainly driven by price rises in housing, water and energy, Statistic Austria reported Tuesday.

VIENNA, Oct. 17 -- Inflation in Austria rose to 2.7 percent in September from 2.2 percent in August, which was mainly driven by price rises in housing, water and energy, Statistic Austria reported Tuesday.

The housing, water and energy prices rose by 3 percent year on year, which was mainly due to increased rent and housing energy costs.

Fuel prices increased by 9.3 percent compared to September 2011, with super petrol costs up by 3 percent over August and diesel fuel up by 1.9 percent.

Prices of food and alcohol-free drinks increased by 3.3 percent and 4.7 percent respectively compared to September 2011, with price of vegetables rising 10.2 percent, meat and meat products 6.3 percent, and bread 3.3 percent.
