SHANGHAI, Jul. 5 (SMM) – According to SMM's latest survey, the average operating rate during June at major Chinese silicon metal producers was 35.95%, virtually flat with the previous month's 36. 73%.
Operating rates at silicon metal producers in Southwest China rose during June, but edged down in producers in other regions, which was largely due to the fact silicon metal producers were pessimistic over future prices in the face of continuously falling silicon metal prices, higher production costs, as well as sluggish downstream demand. This led the average operating rate to stay relatively low during the same month.
There are 156 silicon metal producers in SMM's survey sample, and total annual capacity totals around 3.54 million mt, over 88% of China's total silicon metal capacity.
