SHANGHAI, Nov. 9 (SMM) -- Two severe coal mine accidents recently took place in Henan, one of domestic largest coal producing regions, and caused coal supply shortfalls in Central and South China to deteriorate.

A mine accident took place in Jiaozuo of Henan Province on October 27th, and 18 workers died in the accident. In the accident at a coal mine of Henan Yimei Group, 8 workers died while 67 were rescued.

As local governors’ political future is subject to safety production, they put more emphasis on safety production on the heels of the accidents. Some even go as far as to suspend production at mine operators in case of mine accidents, causing actual coal capacity to fall. The recent two mine accidents will affect normal production at some mine operators, causing domestic supply to fall and boosting coal prices.
