According to China Customs, China's imports of copper semis were only 66 kt in July, slightly down from June levels.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 24 (SMM) –According to China Customs, China's imports of copper semis were only 66 kt in July, slightly down from June levels.

SMM believes that higher copper prices near RMB 10,000/mt, continuously falling SHFE/LME copper price ratio and the seasonal low demand period for end consumers all contributed to the low level for imported copper demand during July.

Domestic copper semis consumption hasn't recovered by far, while uncertainties about economy in Europe and the US and summer holidays also hampered imports of copper terminal products. Hence, SMM believes imports of copper semis will not likely increase during August.
