China’s Bauxite Imports Down 1 Million mt in June

According to China Customs, China’s imports of bauxite were 3.49 million mt during June, down over 1 million mt or 22.45% compared with May’s 4.50 million mt.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 28 (SMM) -- According to China Customs, China’s imports of bauxite were 3.49 million mt during June, down over 1 million mt or 22.45% compared with May’s 4.50 million mt.

China’s imports of bauxite during June were mainly from Indonesia and Australia. China’s imports of bauxite from Indonesia were 2.75 million mt during June, down 733 kt or 21.04% from May, while China’s imports of bauxite from Australia were 742 kt during June, down 233 kt or 23.93% from May. Lower bauxite imports from Indonesia and Australia contributed to lower total imports of bauxite during June.

In addition, the countries of origin of China’s bauxite imports in June decreased to two for the first time in 2011, while the countries of origin of China’s bauxite imports from January to May include India, Malaysia, Guyana, Turkey and other countries.

However, it is worth noting that China’s total imports of bauxite during June rose by 18.27% on a yearly basis, with Indonesia and Australia remaining the major countries of origin of China’s bauxite imports.
