Shaoguan Smelter restarted capacity at the refining system (including Maye Plant) on July 19th, 2011.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 28 (SMM)--According to an announcement of Zhongjin Lingnan Nonfemet Company (Zhongjin Lingnan) on July 22nd, its Shaoguan Smelter restarted capacity at the refining system (including Maye Plant) on July 19th, 2011.

According to the announcement, environmental protection inspection projects of smelting systems were examined by relative departments of the government, except one smelting system.

On October 21st, 2010, thallium leakage from Shaoguan Smelter polluted the upper reaches of Beijiang River in Shaoguan City. To meet the requirements of Guangdong government, Shaoguan Smelter was closed for inspection, which reopened on July 19th after 9 months.

Zhongjin Lingnan has two zinc smelters including Shaoguan Smelter, with capacity 200 kt/yr, which is domestic first enterprise introducing ISP pyrometallurgy. The other is Danxia Smelter, with capacity 100 kt/yr, adopting hydrometallurgy in production. Danxia Smelters was also closed for maintenance for one month after Shaoguan Smelter was shut down, significantly cutting zinc output of the company during the fourth quarter. Zinc output fell sharply in 1H due to Shaoguan Smelter’s suspension, with the output 57.7 kt, down 60% YoY.
