The number of producers using scrap copper as raw materials during June increased MoM for the first time since March 2011.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 19 (SMM) –According to a SMM survey of major domestic copper plate, sheet, strip and foil producers, the number of producers using scrap copper as raw materials during June increased MoM for the first time since March 2011.

Since the start of June, the price gap between scrap and refined copper increased in June from May. For instance, the difference between refined copper and # 1 scrap copper (including tax) prices was nearly RMB 1,800/mt, greatly stimulating copper plate, sheet, strip and foil producer’s interest in using scrap copper as raw materials. As a result, the ratio of using scrap copper rose significantly in June at surveyed copper plate, sheet, strip and foil producers.
