[Cu] China Non-Ferrous Metals Imp/Exp Data, October 2008 (preliminary)

SHANGHAI, Nov. 12 -- According to data released from General Administration of Customs(GAC) of China on Tuesday, in October China imported 231,212 mt of copper, copper alloy products and copper semi, higher than 213,782mt in September. During the first 10 months of 2008, total import volume added up to 2,133,223mt, down 8.5% from the same period last year; copper scrap imports were 406,447mt in October, 4,841,530mt in accumulation from January to October, 6.5% higher than same period last year. 

    In October, China exported unwrought aluminum at 47,622mt, lower than 64,851mt in September. Unwrought aluminum and aluminum products imports in October was 65,987mt, accumulated import at 755,276mt from January to October; scrap aluminum import was 200,000mt in October, accumulated import at 1,870,000mt from January to October; alumina import was 260,000mt in October, accumulated import at 3,770,000mt tons from January to October, down 14.7% from the same period last year.

    China is the largest consumer of copper and aluminum and also the biggest producer of aluminum in the world.
