Further Restrictions on Aluminum Products Likely

SHANGHAIAug.3 (CBI China)--CBI believes further restrictions are needed to curb export growth for the following reasons:

1. Exports of aluminum products have been at an uncontrollable rate in 1H07.

2. According to CBI's latest survey, extrusion manufacturers believe their export business will not be hurt by the cancellation of VAT rebate, and sheet manufacturers are expecting rapid growth in exports in the coming 1-2 months.

3. Previous elimination of VAT rebates and limitation of export taxes could cause lower domestic market prices, a widening price spread between overseas and domestic markets, and in all likelihood. This would still be favorable for aluminum product exports.
