Nikkei Opens 0.55 Pct Higher

TOKYO, Mar. 24 -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday with the key Nikkei index up 0.55 percent.

At 09:15 a.m. local time, the benchmark Nikkei 225 Average rose 52.31 points to 9,501.78.

The broader Topix index was up 1.65 points, or 0.19 percent, to 862.75.
