SHANGHAI, Mar. 21 (SMM) -- The Environmental Protection Bureau began special inspections at lead-acid battery producers on March 1st. Five supervising centers were established in eastern, northern, middle, southern and western China, with each responsible for inspecting main domestic lead-acid battery producers in those regions.
Supervising centers will mainly focus on battery producers which were forced to shut down or make corrective actions. Environmental protection inspections in Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces have all ended, but inspections at battery producers in Hubei and Hunan provinces are still in progress, and it is still possible regional governments would conduct re-inspections.
Following these strict environmental protection inspections, the domestic lead-acid battery sector will probably restructure and result in a higher industrial concentration as substandard companies are eliminated.
