China to Begin New Crackdown on Illegal Mining

BEIJING, May 27 -- Chinese authorities are due to carry out a new six-month campaign against illegal mining and prospecting in June in provinces including the three major tin mining areas of Yunnan, Guangxi and Hunan. According to China Steel the government will crack down on unauthorized activities related to the mining and exploration of rare earths, tungsten, tin, antimony, molybdenum, high-alumina clay and fluorite. This is a continuation of ongoing activity which has been taking place since 2007.
