Chalco Says Plans $1 bln Malaysia Aluminium Plant

HONG KONG, Feb. 10 -- Aluminum Corp of China Ltd (Chalco) (2600.HK: Quote) (601600.SS: Quote) said it has entered into a framework agreement to build an aluminium plant with an annual capacity of 330,000 tonnes in Malaysia, with a total estimated investment of $1 billion.

The plant would be controlled by Smelter Asia Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Chalco and GIIG, a Malaysian company, Chalco said in a statement on Tuesday, adding that it planned to contribute $350 million to $400 million for a 35 to 40 percent equity stake in the joint venture.
