SHANGHAI, Jan. 26 -- 200 kt/yr NPI processing project with total investment of RMB 600 million settled down at Fangcheng port in Guangxi province on January, 23th. It was reported that it is the first nickel project at Fangcheng port.

According to Fangcheng Port Daily, nickel is a very important non-ferrous metal raw material with excellent performance, which is widely use in modern aviation industry and national defense industry as well as civilian industry and other industries. Nickel is a rare resource in China. China has very rare sources of laterite nickel ore and output of laterite nickel ore is far from the demand for China's economic construction, so development of laterite nickel ore is of great strategic importance for China. The development and utilization of nickel has been listed as a key project in the 2006-2020 long-term technology development plan of China Nonferrous Metals Industry.

It is known that laterite nickel ore which is needed for the economic construction is mainly imported from ASEAN, Indonesia and the Philippines for a long time. As China gradually sets up NPI possessing project, the situation that China's NPI resources have to rely on export market is expected to change.
