China's Power Consumption up 8.22% in Aug

BEIJING, Sept. 18 -- China's power consumption rose to 346 billion kilowatt hours in August, up 8.22% from a year earlier, according to statistics released by the National Energy Administration.

    During the first eight months of this year, China's power consumption edged up 0.36% year on year to 2.34 trillion kWh. Power consumption in primary industry rose 6.29% to 64.14 billion kWh, while that in secondary industry declined 2.84% to 1.72 trillion kWh. The power consumption in tertiary industry reached 255.52 billion kWh, up 10.70% year on year.

    During the eight-month period, China added another 40.82 million kW of new installed capacity, including 10.25 million kW of hydropower capacity and 27.02 million kW of thermal electricity capacity.

    China's power consumption rose 6% year on year in July.
