On May 8, 2025, Changxing Yingna New Energy Materials Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Huzhou Yingna New Energy Materials Co., Ltd., held a commissioning ceremony for its first large-scale production line of polyanion cathode material. Leaders from Jiangsu University and the CPC Changxing County Committee, along with representatives from the sodium-ion battery industry, investment community, media, and friends and family, attended the event.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Industry Background

In recent years, sodium-ion batteries have emerged as a frontier in secondary batteries due to their abundant resources, high safety, long lifespan, and excellent low-temperature performance. During 2021–2022, with the surge in lithium prices, the sodium-ion battery market garnered significant attention. Under the leadership of CATL, companies accelerated their R&D efforts, and many new players from other industries entered this field. However, the industrialisation of sodium-ion batteries faces challenges, primarily due to fluctuations in lithium resource prices and the practical implementation of projects. Despite these challenges, the technological pathway has gradually become clearer. Yingna New Energy focuses on low-cost, long-life, and high-safety polyanion-type cathode materials, establishing itself as a significant force in the market.

About Yingna

Yingna New Energy is a technology company dedicated to the R&D and production of polyanion cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries. The company name "Yingna" originates from the Book of Songs, symbolising "the capability of sodium, as beautiful as Ying." The company has two wholly-owned subsidiaries: Zhenjiang Yingna New Energy Materials Co., Ltd., responsible for pilot testing, and Changxing Yingna New Energy Materials Co., Ltd., responsible for mass production. Since its establishment three years ago, Yingna New Energy has rapidly achieved small-scale testing, pilot testing, and batch shipments. In August 2024, it launched a large-scale production line with a capacity of 10,000 mt, and it is expected to achieve mass supply by early 2025, leading the industry in industrialisation progress.

Yingna New Energy maintains an advanced edge in technological innovation and industrialisation processes, renowned for its highly competitive preparation methods and production processes. Its flagship product, composite sodium iron phosphate cathode material, has been recognised by several well-known battery enterprises for its advantages of small particle size, high compaction, low cost, and long lifespan.

Yingna New Energy recently completed a new round of financing worth tens of millions of yuan. This round was led by the Chuangrong Dingjie Green Fund, with follow-on investment from Beijing Dancheng Asset. The funds will primarily be used for the construction of the 10,000 mt sodium-ion battery cathode material production line, product R&D, and market expansion.

Core Team Introduction

The founder of Yingna, Dr. Yaping Wang, graduated from the School of Chemistry at Nankai University. With a solid academic background and extensive practical experience, he has been actively engaged in frontline research for years. Co-founders Yue Qin and Hao Xu, among others, have rich experience in corporate management and market development. The management team has been deeply involved in the battery industry for over a decade.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, the application of sodium-ion batteries is expected to expand further in 2024, with market demand anticipated to be more fully realised in 2025. The company plans to commence the construction of a 10,000 mt production line in August 2024, aiming to achieve large-scale product supply by early 2025.
