Sichuan Tianfu Xinchuan Group Launches Alumina Project in Indonesia's Central Kalimantan

Sichuan Tianfu Xinchuan Group recently announced the development of an alumina project in Central Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, through its newly established subsidiary PT Progressive Indonesia Alumina (PIA). The group confirmed that PIA was registered as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) in 2024, aiming to advance the group's downstream mineral sector layout in Indonesia. The project is located in Sampit Town, Central Kalimantan Province. The first phase of the project will construct a smelting-grade alumina plant with an annual production capacity of 1 million mt, along with supporting logistics, energy, and plant infrastructure networks. The total investment is expected to exceed $540 million. The Sampit alumina plant is planned to build a vertically integrated industry chain from bauxite mining to refining production. Once operational, the project is expected to support Indonesia's national goal of reducing reliance on bauxite exports and establishing a domestic value-added mineral ecosystem.
