On April 1, the European Commission announced fines totaling nearly 458 million euros against 15 major automakers and the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). This was due to their involvement in an anti-competitive "scrap car recycling alliance" over the past 15 years. Among these companies, Volkswagen, Renault, and Stellantis faced the highest fines of 128 million euros, 81 million euros, and approximately 75 million euros, respectively. ACEA itself was fined 500,000 euros. Mercedes-Benz, however, received full immunity for disclosing the alliance, avoiding a fine of nearly 35 million euros.
