SMM reported on March 28: Spot premiums in the Tianjin region slightly declined this week, down by around 5 yuan/mt WoW from the weekly average price. As of this Friday, domestic common brands were at a discount of 40 to a premium of 50 yuan/mt against the 2504 contract, while premium brands were quoted at a premium of 80-100 yuan/mt against the 2504 contract. The Tianjin market was at a discount of around 10 yuan/mt against the Shanghai market. Zinc prices remained volatile at high levels throughout the week, with downstream restocking mainly driven by rigid demand and low purchasing enthusiasm. Coupled with moderate end-use consumption, market activity was primarily driven by trading among merchants. Merchant offers slightly declined, and by Friday, zinc prices pulled back significantly, prompting some downstream users to restock opportunistically. Merchant offers slightly increased, but the improvement in transactions was limited, with overall trading activity remaining moderate this week. It is expected that some companies will restock ahead of the Qingming Festival next week, and premiums may rebound.
