SMM News Flash: Boliden Completes Odda Smelter Expansion in Norway, Boosting Zinc Capacity

[SMM News Flash] On March 17, Boliden announced the official completion of its Odda smelter in Norway. The annual zinc capacity has increased from 200,000 mt to 350,000 mt. The expansion project was originally scheduled to enhance production levels in Q4 2024, but due to delays in the construction of roasting equipment, the timeline was postponed to Q1 2025. Currently, the overall progress is largely in line with previous expectations. This expansion not only involved the construction of extensive logistics and energy infrastructure but also included the addition of a new roasting furnace, a sulphuric acid plant, and a new electrolysis workshop. Furthermore, the leaching and purification plant, as well as the casting plant, were expanded and modernized. In 2024, the zinc ingot production at the Odda smelter reached 151,000 mt.
