[US-Backed Mining Company Seeks to Develop Ukraine Lithium Mine, May Become One of the First Projects Under US-Ukraine Mineral Agreement]
The US-backed mining company TechMet aims to develop a large lithium mine project in Ukraine, which may become one of the first projects under the US-Ukraine mineral agreement expected to be finalised soon. Both sides are working to sign the mineral agreement in the coming days, while US representatives are holding talks in Saudi Arabia this week to address the end of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. TechMet CEO Brian Menell stated that the lithium resources at the Dobra project in central Ukraine are "immense," and the company has been conducting field trips to the mine site since 2023. The US government is one of the shareholders in the project. Investors in the Dobra project include Ronald Lauder, a billionaire friend of Trump who strongly supported the US acquisition of Greenland. TechMet was established during Trump’s first administration.
