Nickel Salt Prices Increased, Cost Support Strengthened
As of Thursday, the SMM battery-grade nickel sulphate index price was 26,916 yuan/mt, with the quotation range for battery-grade nickel sulphate at 26,840-27,560 yuan/mt, and the average price increased WoW.
Supply side, the MHP coefficient continued to climb, coupled with stronger LME nickel prices, leading to more severe losses for nickel salt smelters, fostering a strong sentiment to stand firm on quotes. Some nickel salt smelters, affected by the rising MHP coefficient and losses, may consider cutting production. On the demand side, influenced by fluctuations in cobalt prices, precursor manufacturers saw increased losses, slowing their procurement pace for nickel salts. This week, the sentiment for purchasing nickel salts was low, and inquiry activity weakened.
Overall, given the sentiment to stand firm on quotes from nickel salt smelters due to losses, and the fact that precursor manufacturers have not yet completed their necessary stockpiling of nickel salts, there remains some procurement demand. It is expected that nickel sulphate prices will continue to rise next week.
