[South32 Resumes Mozambique Aluminum Smelter Guidance Production, but Lowers by 10,000 mt Compared to Early-Year Forecast]
In January, South32's Mozal smelter in Mozambique experienced a temporary aluminum production capacity reduction of approximately 3% due to domestic unrest. Although emergency measures alleviated raw material inventory issues, South32 temporarily withdrew its full-year production guidance for Mozal due to uncertainties.
In February, South32 released its FY25 H1 report, resuming production guidance for the smelter. The share production for FY25 (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026) is expected to be 350,000 mt, down by 10,000 mt from the guidance at the beginning of the fiscal year. (South32 holds a 63.7% stake.)
