[EGA and INALUM Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Collaborate on Expanding Inalum Aluminum Smelter, Targeting an Annual Capacity of 400,000 mt]
Reported on February 17, UAE-based Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and Indonesia's state-owned PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) are advancing plans to expand their aluminum smelting facility, aiming to increase annual capacity to 400,000 mt. However, the specific timetable for the project remains undetermined due to the current shortage of available low-carbon energy supply. At present, part of the smelter's electricity comes from hydropower, but EGA and the Indonesian government are exploring further use of clean energy, such as solar power or additional hydropower, to ensure the project meets green aluminum production standards. Moving forward, the project's progress will depend on further negotiations between the Indonesian government and EGA regarding energy supply and the investment environment.
