[SMM Spot Aluminum Midday Review: Downstream Procurement Slightly Increased Over the Weekend, Aluminum Prices Fluctuate at Highs]

SMM, February 14—SHFE aluminum front-month contract fluctuated during the early trading session today, with its center moving upward. As the weekend approached, downstream procurement slightly increased, and most transactions were concentrated among traders. Specifically, trading in east China continued to improve, and spot discounts remained stable. Today, SMM A00 aluminum ingot spot discounts against the SHFE 2502 contract stood at 40 yuan/mt, down 10 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. SMM A00 aluminum ingot prices were recorded at 20,600 yuan/mt, up 90 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. In the central China market, as the weekend approached, downstream stocking improved market transactions, and spot discounts narrowed. Actual transactions were mainly at SMM Central +10 yuan/mt. Today, the Henan-Shanghai price spread was around a discount of 120 yuan/mt. SMM Central A00 aluminum ingot prices against the SHFE 2502 contract were recorded at 20,480 yuan/mt, up 110 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. Inventory-wise, according to SMM data on aluminum ingot social inventory across three domestic regions, as of February 14, inventory buildup increased by 5,400 mt to 617,100 mt. After the Lantern Festival, downstream operations resumed, and demand increased accordingly. However, aluminum prices remained at a relatively high level. Spot premiums/discounts are expected to remain stable. Moving forward, attention should be paid to the progress of downstream resumption and disruptions on the aluminum supply side.
