The Japanese stock market saw a significant rise in the stock prices of Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors at the opening on December 18, with Nissan Motor's shares surging by as much as 24%, nearing the trading limit.

This phenomenon was driven by a report from Nikkei News early that morning, which revealed that Honda Motor and Nissan Motor were in merger talks to address the rapidly changing global competition. According to sources, the two companies are considering forming a holding company and are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding in the near future. Additionally, Mitsubishi Motors is also likely to be included in the structure of this holding company.

Furthermore, Bloomberg reported that Honda's Executive Vice President Shinji Aoyama stated that the company is evaluating various options, including the possibility of a merger with Nissan Motor. He noted that both parties are indeed exploring the establishment of a holding company to operate jointly.
