SMM Morning Comment: Alumina Prices Expected to Grow Modestly Amid Supply Disruptions and Sluggish Transactions

SMM Morning Comment on Alumina: Frequent reports of disruptions in bauxite supply from Guinea have posed certain risks to domestic bauxite supply and alumina production. Domestic bauxite supply has been at a seasonal low due to the rainy season in Guinea, limiting ore supply and hindering the increase in alumina operating capacity. Additionally, heavy pollution weather warnings in north China have somewhat affected alumina calcination, while frequent maintenance events at alumina refineries in south China have also impacted alumina supply. On the demand side, aluminum plant production and stocking demand have been considerable. Spot alumina supply has not shown a significant surplus. However, spot alumina transactions have turned sluggish this week, with transaction price increases slowing down compared to earlier periods. In the short term, spot alumina prices are expected to see modest growth.
