CATL Establishes Comprehensive Battery Lifecycle Management System, Aims to Halve Lithium Mining by 2042

On September 27, Cailian Press reported that Zeng Yuqun, Chairman of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), stated at the World New Energy Vehicle Congress held today that CATL has established a complete battery life cycle management system covering all aspects of the upstream supply chain, battery design, production, use, recycling, and remanufacturing. Last year, CATL recycled 100,000 tonnes of waste batteries, re-produced 13,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate, achieving a lithium recovery rate of 91% and a nickel-cobalt-manganese recovery rate of 99.6%. CATL has the capacity to process 270,000 tonnes of waste batteries, and this figure will reach 1 million tonnes in the future. It is estimated that by 2042, CATL will use half of its batteries with recycled lithium and half with minerals, eliminating the need to mine new mineral resources.
