【Malaysia's Chilli Aluminium Industry Experiences Fire Leading to Reduced Production of Electrolytic Aluminium】According to foreign media reports, on Monday evening (September 9), a fire broke out at the third-phase smelter of Malaysia's Chilli Aluminium Industry located in the Samalaju Industrial Park. The blaze, which occurred shortly after 11 pm, has now been extinguished. The company stated that the smelter is owned by Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd, which holds an 80% stake in it under Press Metal. The fire has led to the temporary shutdown of approximately 100 electrolytic cells in the company's Phase 3 electrolytic aluminium project, impacting annual production capacity by around 100,000 tonnes. The estimated repair time for the damaged electrolytic cells is approximately four months. According to SMM data, Press Metal's total installed capacity for electrolytic aluminium in Samalaju is approximately 960,000 tonnes, and the plant was operating at full capacity prior to the incident.
