Since the start of operation of the phase I plant of the Kamoa-Kakula mega copper mine project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) under Ivanhoe Mines on May 25, 2021, the cumulative copper production has exceeded the 1 million ton mark. By June 30, 2024, the project had accumulated 1.02 million tons of copper in concentrate.

Since Ivanhoe Mines first entered the DRC in 1996, it has embarked on a 28-year Odyssey journey, enduring hardships and moving forward with perseverance. Kamoa-Kakula has emerged from its cocoon and is dancing in Katanga.

With the early commissioning of the Kamoa-Kakula phase III plant within budget, the comprehensive ore processing capacity of the three lines has been increased to 14.2 million tons per year. It is expected that after the phase III plant reaches full production, the annual copper production will exceed 600,000 tons, making it the largest copper mine in Africa and the third largest copper mine in the world.
