Indian solar panel manufacturer Waaree Energies announced that it will invest $1 billion to build a 5GW photovoltaic component factory in the United States, as well as a battery production line. The company has chosen Houston, Texas as the location for its first solar manufacturing plant in the U.S., citing incentives from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IRA). Waaree's plan is to begin production of 3GW by December 2024, with a goal to expand to 5GW by 2027. The expansion schedule depends on the signing of a solar component procurement agreement with SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank Group, with a contract period of 5 years from the start of production at the component plant.
