Chilean state-owned mining giant Codelco's incoming CEO Ruben Alvarado faces a daunting task: to increase copper production from its lowest level in 25 years, control ever-expanding costs, and lead the country's foray into battery metals.
64-year-old Alvarado will take over as CEO on September 1, as he searches for a replacement for outgoing Andre Sougarret, who abruptly announced his resignation in June citing personal reasons and the "complexity" of running the world's largest copper producer.
