Operating Rate Of Copper Wire And Cables Plants In April Weakened

The operating rates of copper wire and cable producers averaged 85.53% in April, down 1.53 percentage points month on month but up 19.26 percentage points year on year. The average operating rate of large, medium-sized and small enterprises was 88.89%, 70.42% and 56.75% respectively.

The backlog of orders before the first quarter have been completed. New orders brought about by the drop in copper prices in mid-March were also completed in early April. New orders for the distribution network in late March were weak, and the increase in deliveries to the State Grid in April was limited.

Demand in the real estate sector was also poor. The raw material inventory/output ratio and finished product inventory/output ratio of copper wire and cable companies stood at 14.79% and 25.40% respectively in April. The former rose 1.51 percentage points while the latter slid 1.83 percentage points in April. Copper prices continued to fall in late April, and some companies purchased on the dip ahead of Labour Day holidays, reducing finished product inventories slightly.
