According to media reports, Australian lithium mining company Allkem has now agreed to merge with American lithium battery company Livent, a deal that will create a lithium producer with a market value of $10.6 billion, which may shake up the global lithium industry.
The two companies currently own mines in Argentina and Canada, which in 2023 are equivalent to about 7% of global lithium supply.
The newly formed corporate entity would be the "world's third-largest lithium producer" by 2027, based on estimated capacity, the companies said in a report.
