Morgan Stanley: Demand Recovery Will Prevent Lithium Prices from Falling in the Second Quarter

On August 21, the Maoming (Guangdong) ecology and environment bureau published a proposed-approval notice (comment period August 21–28) for a carbon materials project by a local company: 50,000 tpa of liquid-crystal high-carbon materials, 2,000 tpa of sodium-ion battery anode material, 2,000 tpa of lithium-ion battery anode material and 1,000 tpa of super microporous carbon. Located in the Jinshan Economic Development Zone of Gaozhou, the project converts a dismantled fuel-oil tank farm into new production workshops, using ethylene tar, catalytic slurry and medium-temperature pitch as feedstock, with extraction-separation, thermal polycondensation, milling-granulation and carbonization units. The repurposing of oil-storage land into sodium/lithium anode carbon capacity adds another scale supply point to the sodium-ion battery anode segment.

8월 18일, 허베이 소재 신에너지소재 기업의 리튬배터리 음극재 2단계 프로젝트에 대한 2차 공개협의가 공고되었다(의견수렴 기간: 8월 18일~31일). 허베이 펑난 경제개발구 린강 파크에 위치한 이 프로젝트는 파쇄기, 분쇄기, 조립화 반응기, 예비 흑연화로 및 흑연화로, 전자동 체가름·탈자기 시스템, 진공 포장을 갖춘 연산 6만 톤 규모의 일관 음극재 생산라인을 추가하여 연산 6만 톤의 인조흑연 음극재 생산을 목표로 한다. 흑연화 공정을 내재화한 일관 배치는 톤당 전력비 부담을 낮춰 음극재 부문의 원가 경쟁력을 강화한다.

8월 14일, 후이저우(광둥) 생태환경국은 8월 13일 연산 8만 톤 규모의 리튬전지 음극재 증설 프로젝트에 대한 환경영향평가 문서를 접수했으며, 근무일 기준 10일간의 공개 의견 수렴 기간을 둔다고 공고했다. 후이양구 전룽진에 위치하고 중국 주요 음극재 생산업체의 현지 자회사가 추진하는 이 프로젝트는 정식 환경영향평가 보고서로 제출되었다. 승인될 경우, 이번 증설은 주강 삼각주의 음극재 생산능력 클러스터를 더욱 공고히 할 것이다.
