Severe Inventory Backlogs Weigh on Lead-Acid Battery Scrap Prices

SHANGHAI, Feb 22 (SMM) –  SMM survey showed that many secondary lead smelters in Anhui and Jiangxi provinces reported more than 5,000 mt of raw material stocks on hand recently, which are above normal levels.  

This drove them to cut battery scrap purchase price and volume

Spot price of e-bike lead-acid battery scrap has entered a downward path since February 6, and stood at 8,900-9,050 yuan/mt on February 22, a loss of 100 yuan/mt or 1.1% from February 3.

More people travelling by e-bike after China lifted Covid restrictions means that more battery scrap was available for recycling. Traders returned to the market after the Lantern Festival, also contributing to greater battery scrap supply.
