As the impact of climate change and rapidly accelerating global decarbonization efforts continue to drive long-term demand for its metals, Anglo-American Platinum (Amplats) is poised to provide the next phase of value to our stakeholders.
Natascha Viljoen, chief executive of Anglo American Platinum, said the company was very focused on using its capacity throughout the value chain to lead technology deployment and market development for its products.
Against this backdrop, Viljoen says Amplats's industry-leading portfolio provides a strong growth platform for its diversified, low-cost and long-term mining and processing assets.
"We are firmly committed to providing safe, responsible and reliable products, while building prosperous local communities and maintaining a healthy environment, which is at the core of everything we do. We will achieve this by providing industry-leading returns through value-oriented capital allocation. "
Strategic priority
Amplats focuses on four strategic priorities to provide stakeholders with the next phase of value creation:
Stimulate new markets, utilize new capacity, increase and expand demand through market development activities, while gaining value from opportunities in adjacent value chains.
Embed anti-vulnerability in its business to improve the resilience of its business and achieve a value creation plan.
Maximize the value of its industry-leading portfolio to ensure that its assets will be in the first half of the cost curve.
By building trust as a business leader, building a prosperous community, and maintaining a healthy environment, become a leader in ESG.
Value creation
Achieving these strategic priorities will increase the attributable production of the company's own mines and joint operations by 20 per cent from about 300 ounces today to about 3.6 million ounces by 2030, while improving profit margins and business returns.
This will be achieved through operational excellence and corporate discipline and a balanced approach to capital allocation, which focuses on maintaining balance sheet strength, value-added growth and attractive returns to shareholders.
Amplats promises to pay a 40 per cent basic dividend; while continuing to strictly manage discretionary capital, it seeks maximum returns through portfolio upgrades, technological breakthroughs, project growth options, ESG opportunities and additional shareholder returns.
Key goal
Amplats sets the following key goals:
By 2030, operations will be 100% fully modernized and mechanized;
By 2025, all its mine operations will be in the first half of the main cost curve.
By 2030, the profit margin before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization of the mining industry will reach 35-45%;
The rate of return on capital use throughout the cycle is at least 25%;
Create 5 related jobs outside the mining area for each mining area by 2030;
A net 30% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and carbon neutralization by 2040 (ranges 1 and 2). (source: MiningReview)
