US Supports Madagascar Rare Earth Project to Diversify Supply Chain, Reduce China Dependence
[SMM Rare Earth Flash] The US government has decided to support the Ampasindava rare earth project in Madagascar to promote the diversification of the critical minerals supply chain and reduce dependence on China’s rare earth supplies. Project developer Harena Rare Earths stated that the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has committed up to $4.48 million for a pilot plant, laboratory testing, and environmental protection projects, paving the way for subsequent financing. The ion-adsorption rare earth mine is planned to start production in mid-2028, with an expected annual output of approximately 4,000 mt of rare earth oxides, of which about 1,700 mt are magnetic material rare earths such as neodymium-praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium. The total investment of the project is approximately $150 million.

Indonesia to Promote Integrated Rare Earth Industry, Boost Downstream Development and National Competitiveness
[SMM Rare Earth Express] Duduun Abdurrahman, Head of the Executive Office of the President of Indonesia (KSP), stated that Indonesia will promote the establishment of an integrated rare earth industry ecosystem, accelerate the downstream development of critical minerals, and enhance national industrial competitiveness and supply chain security. Abdurrahman noted that Indonesia has around 350,000 mt of rare earth oxide reserves, but the added value of these resources has not been fully released. In the future, the country will strengthen the development of high-value-added segments such as rare earth separation, refining, and permanent magnet materials, and promote the application of rare earths in strategic industries including semiconductors, NEVs, batteries, renewable energy, and national defense. Meanwhile, the government will improve downstream rare earth policies, tackle issues related to technology, regulation, and supply chain traceability, reduce exports of low-value-added raw materials, and enhance global competitiveness.
