Central banks around the world purchased 77 tons of gold in August, a 38% increase from July, according to a report from the World Gold Council on Wednesday. Over the past three months, central banks have purchased 219 tons of gold. Analysts say that central bank demand is expected to remain healthy this year.
Krishan Gopaul, senior analyst at the World Gold Council, said in the report: "Recent buying activity has now firmly moved us beyond the net sales seen in April and May, which were driven by large non-strategic sales from Turkey." Therefore, we believe the long-term trend of healthy central bank demand still remains.
However, despite strong demand, Gopaul noted that buying activity is limited to a few central banks. (Sina Finance)
