SHANGHAI, Sep 11 (SMM) –Lithium carbonate prices dropped in the week ending September 7. On the supply side, some lithium salt factories have shut down for maintenance due to scant downstream orders and falling prices. This led to reduced market supply. However, existing supply still far outstripped downstream demand, exerting downward pressure on prices. Demand recovery among end-users remained slow, with weak stockpiling and limited upstream purchasing support. The cathode sector has also slightly reduced its raw material inventory, further driving down prices. Given the current supply-demand imbalance, lithium carbonate prices are expected to remain under downward pressure in the week ending September 15.
