Zinc inventories dip on fewer deliveries to three major markets

Zinc social inventories shrank during the last weekend with fewer deliveries arriving in China’s three major markets

SHANGHAI, May 22 (SMM) – Zinc social inventories shrank during the last weekend with fewer deliveries arriving in China’s three major markets, SMM learned. 

Overall zinc inventories in warehouses across Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong stood at 129,400 mt as of Monday May 21, down 2,100 mt from last Friday. It was also down 9,900 mt from the start of last week, according to SMM data.

The week on week decline was faster than a decline of 4,600 mt last Friday.

Kazzinc said on Tuesday that its zinc and lead plants at the Ust-Kamenogorsk metallurgical complex in eastern Kazakhstan are operating at reduced capacity following last week’s explosion. The incident occurred at Kazzinc’s zinc plant, killing three people and injuring five others. Kazzinc, Kazakhstan’s largest producer of zinc, lead and precious metals and owned by Glencore, has not disclosed the extent of the impact on output. Clean-up operations and an investigation into the incident are still ongoing.
