Zinc inventory dips on smelters maintenance in north China

China’s zinc social inventories dipped this week as maintenance works at smelters limited the deliveries to warehouses, SMM learned.

SHANGHAI, May 18 (SMM) – Zinc social inventories dipped this week as maintenance works at smelters in north China limited deliveries to warehouses, SMM learned.

The overall zinc inventories in warehouses across Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong stood at 131,500 mt as of Friday May 18, down 4,600 mt from last Friday. It was also down 7,900 mt from the start of this week, according to SMM data.

Domestic brands of zinc were heard to be limited in the market.

Trading volume decreased to 35,832 lots, while open interest increased by 860 lots to 74,221 lots.

Trading volume rose to 10,950 lots, and open interest fell by 2,418 lots to 215,000 lots.
