On March 26, the alumina project of the SPIC Group's Guinea Aluminum Development Project (Phase II) commenced full-scale construction at 11:00 local time in Guinea (19:00 Beijing time). The Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea, Amadou Oury Bah, attended to witness the project launch. Also present and delivering speeches were Diba Diakité, Director of the Presidential Office and Chairman of the National Strategy Committee of Guinea, Bouna Sylla, Minister of Mines and Geology, Huang Wei, Chinese Ambassador to Guinea, and Liu Mingsheng, Chairman of the SPIC Group.
The project includes bauxite mining in the northern mine section, a 1.2 million mt per year alumina plant, and its supporting ancillary works. The commencement of Phase II is a successful implementation of the important consensus reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Guinean President Doumbouya during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in September 2024, carrying significant political influence and profound implications. The project will actively contribute to promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind in Guinea and across Africa.
