Shanghai (Gasgoo)-On December 23, SAIC Motor announced the delivery of its new ocean car carrier, Anji Prestige, constructed by Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd., a key large-scale shipbuilding enterprise owned by China State Shipbuilding Corporation limited ("CSSC").

The vessel, which measures 200 meters in length, 38 meters in width, and stands as tall as a 13-story building, has a capacity of 7,800 vehicles and a displacement of 40,000 tonnes. Equipped with innovative LNG dual-fuel clean energy technology, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 30%. The ship will embark on its maiden voyage to Europe before being deployed on the U.S.-Mexico route.

As SAIC Motor's logistics subsidiary, SAIC Anji Logistics currently operates China's largest carmaker-owned automotive shipping fleet, consisting of 33 vessels, including 11 river ships, 9 domestic trade sea ships, and 13 international trade sea ships. The company has established eight international routes, covering destinations such as Southeast Asia, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Oceania.

By 2026, SAIC Anji Logistics plans to expand its fleet to 22 vessels for international trade, with nine new ships capable of carrying 7,800 to 9,000 vehicles each. These ships will serve key export destinations for Chinese automakers, including Southeast Asia, the Persian Gulf, the Mediterranean, the UK, Mexico-West Coast USA, East Coast USA, South America, and Oceania.

SAIC Motor has already established a full-value automotive industry chain overseas, including innovation centers, production facilities, marketing hubs, supply chain centers, and financial services. Its products and services now span over 100 countries and regions. From January to November 2024, SAIC Motor achieved overseas sales of 937,000 vehicles. Its MG brand sold over 220,000 vehicles in Europe, overcoming challenges from the EU's anti-subsidy investigations to achieve year-over-year growth, with annual sales expected to hit a new high.

SAIC Anji Logistics, a "hidden champion" within SAIC's industrial chain, has grown into the world's largest automotive logistics company. It pioneered a multi-modal transport model combining road, rail, and waterway logistics, with operations spanning nearly 600 cities in China and over 100 countries worldwide. The company's annual transport capacity now exceeds 10 million vehicles.
