According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Quarterly Tracker of Worldwide PC Devices, global tablet shipments declined by 19.1% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2023, totaling 30.7 million units.
Tablet shipments fell 3.3% YoY in the previous quarter.
All of the leading tablet vendors experienced declines in the first quarter of 2023, partly due to consumer frenzy over electronics as work from home and online education wind down as the COVID-19 lockdown ends. Another reason is the growing inflation and economic slowdown worldwide, weakening consumer demand for shopping.
And suppliers are focusing on clearing as much inventory as possible ahead of new model launches, leading to lower shipments in the first half of 2023.
Apple and Samsung still dominated, and the two together accounted for 58% of the tablet market. Huawei came in third, with Lenovo and Amazon fourth and fifth, respectively.
