The ongoing Shanghai Auto Show (April 18-27) has attracted numerous number of visitors, with local and foreign brands competing with each other in terms of both gasoline-powered and electric cars.
A hall displaying electric cars made by NIO, Xpeng, Zeekr and dozens of other Chinese automakers was filled with visitors. This was in stark contrast with a nearby area showcasing gasoline-powered vehicles by foreign brands, which drew far less attention.
Volkswagen made a bold forecast at the event, saying that half of the cars sold in China will be electric ones within two years, up from only 6% in 2020.
It seems that the theme at the Shanghai Auto Show is clear: Electric cars are here to stay, and Chinese automakers are leading this field.
