SHANGHAI, Apr 17 (SMM) - Last Friday, the average price of 8-12% high-grade NPI was 1,052.5 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, including tax), flat from the previous trading day and up 11 yuan/mtu from the previous Friday. On the demand side, the stainless steel mills are expected to ramp up their production intensively in April. The mills raised their purchase prices of NPI and restocked some raw materials amid the rebound of NPI prices and the improvement in stainless steel demand. NPI plants held their prices firm. Recently, the transactions between traders and NPI plants have increased. Market players generally remain bullish. There are still some NPI inventories that have not been released, but the overall stocks decreased slightly, especially the inventory held by traders.
On the cost side, the prices of Indonesia nickel ore basically reached the bottom, but the transactions were poor on the delivery problem and the mismatch between supply and demand. The prices will be stable with occasional ups in the near future.
The mainstream NPI prices will run stably at 1,045-1,070 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, including tax) this week.
